Dan Connolly (D-PA 18) Calls on Tim Murphy to Defend Social Security
Calls on Murphy to Rescind Support of John Boehner and
His Efforts to Raise the Social Security Retirement Age
South Park, PA – Dan Connolly today called on Congressman Tim Murphy to defend Social Security and condemn Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner’s statement in support of raising the Social Security retirement age to 70.
“In an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Congressman John Boehner called for increasing the retirement age for Social Security to the age of 70. Tim Murphy is a loyal follower of Congressman Boehner’s leadership and votes consistently with the leader of his party. The people of the 18th Congressional District deserve some straight talk for their Congressman: does he support Congressman Boehner or will he call for him to resign from leadership?”
“People in southwestern Pennsylvania are hurting from this economy. Now we know what the Republican’s plan is for working families in this economy: work more years – if you can find a job.”
“Raising the Social Security retirement age is not the answer. If Congressman Murphy continues to support John Boehner as his leader then he is supporting increasing the retirement age for Social Security.”
“It is disturbing enough that Congressman Murphy supports his colleague on the Energy Committee that apologized to British Petroleum and called efforts to get BP to pay for the clean up a ‘shakedown’. Now, when the leader of his party comes here and calls for the Social Security retirement age to be increased, the people of Southwestern Pennsylvania deserve to know where Tim Murphy stands: with his constituents or with his friends in Congress.”
